Antique Dutch architectural print of the Gothic Revival entrance front of the church of Saint Johannes, designed by H. J. van den Brink, a lithograph printed in muted colour from J. H. Leliman's album, 1865 to 1866.

The plate is unusual in the album for its presentation: the church front is drawn within a tall arched vignette, the sky behind washed in a pale sage green rather than the flat white ground of the other sheets, so that the building reads almost as a framed picture. A ribbon banner in the lower margin names the church of Saint Johannes, with a place name lettered beneath it in ornamental gothic script.

The facade is in brick with stone dressings: a tall central gable pierced by a large rose window of quatrefoil tracery over a band of narrow lancets, a round-arched main portal with a pair of panelled doors beneath a carved tympanum, twin corner turrets rising into slender spires, and lower aisle gables to either side, each with its own lancet and rose windows. Behind the central gable rises a tall, steeply pitched spire crowned with a decorative finial and weathervane. A single figure, a man carrying a long pole or standard, stands to the right of the porch for scale, in the plain coat and hat of the period.

The lithography combines fine architectural line for the masonry with a softer tonal wash for the sky and the grass, printed in muted colour. This antique architectural lithograph comes from the third part of the 'Album van bouwkundige schetsen'. Jan Hendrik Leliman (1828 to 1910), an Amsterdam architect and a founder of the architects' society Architectura et Amicitia, edited the album, gathering in it his own designs and those of fellow Dutch architects. The architect's name and plate number 17 head the sheet, Leliman's credit runs lower left and the imprint of the lithographer S. Lankhout of The Hague lower right. Its arched, picture-like format makes it a natural choice for framing, for a collector of church architecture or anyone connected with the parish of Saint Johannes.

The sheet is in fair to good condition for its age. There is scattered foxing across the tinted image area and margins, with light toning and minor wear to the sheet edges. Please see the images for further detail.
