Antique Dutch architectural print of the interior of the Kruseman shop in the Kalverstraat, Amsterdam, with a perspective view and detail drawings of its fittings, a lithograph and the last of J. H. Leliman's four plates on the shop, from his album of 1865 to 1866.
The sheet is again headed 'Details van het winkelhuis in de Kalverstraat te Amsterdam'. Its centrepiece, set at the top, is a view along the full length of the shop: a narrow gallery lined with carved fretwork brackets and slender columns rising to a coffered ceiling with a central rosette, a hanging chandelier lighting a curved counter and till stand at the far end framed by leaded glass, dark stained-wood cabinets and drawers along both walls beneath the display shelving, and two sales tables in the aisle.
Below, detail drawings work out the fittings seen in the view: the shop cabinets in front elevation and section, 'Winkelkasten in front en doorsnede'; a carved shopfront cornice or 'puilijst'; a wall panelling detail, 'Lambris 2de Verdieping', with three inset rosettes; a first-floor window grille, 'Raamhek 1ste Verdieping'; a further elevation of the cabinets; two sales tables, 'Verkooptafel', with scrolled cast-iron legs; and a small chandelier detail. A single scale, 'Schaal 5 à 100', governs these details.
Jan Hendrik Leliman (1828 to 1910), an Amsterdam architect and a founder of the architects' society Architectura et Amicitia, edited the album, gathering in it his own designs and those of fellow Dutch architects. His name and plate number 15 head the sheet, the editorial credit runs lower left and the imprint of the lithographer S. Lankhout of The Hague lower right. With its interior view of a fitted Amsterdam shop of the 1860s, this antique architectural lithograph brings the Kruseman shop to life, and it would make an engaging piece for a shop, a study or a collector of Dutch interiors.
The sheet is in good condition for its age, with light toning, a faint horizontal crease at the side margins, a few small spots and light wear to the edges and corners. Please see the images for further detail.
