Antique Dutch architectural print of the chimneypiece, inner shopfront screen and street door of J. H. Leliman's Kruseman shop in the Kalverstraat, Amsterdam, an uncoloured lithograph from the third part of his album, 1865 to 1866.
The plate continues the series of details for the shop-house, again headed 'Details van het winkelhuis in de Kalverstraat te Amsterdam'. Three details are drawn at a larger scale than the general elevation. The first, 'Opstand van den Binnenpui', is the shop's internal partition or inner front, an elaborate fretwork screen with carved brackets and a pierced valance, a low balustrade rail and a pair of standing candelabra either side of the opening. The second, 'Schoorsteen 1ste Verdieping', is a first-floor chimneypiece, a carved wood surround with a mirrored overmantel panel and a small mantel clock. The third, 'Winkeldeur', is the shop's street door, panelled and glazed, set with a wrought-iron grille and a carved roundel at its base.
Each detail has its own printed scale, 'Schaal Binnenpui 4 à 100' and 'Schaal Schoorsteen 5 à 100', confirming that these were working drawings for the joiner and metalworker. The carving throughout uses a full, eclectic vocabulary of scrolling brackets, roundels and geometric panelling typical of Dutch shopfitting of the 1860s.
The lithography is fine, uncoloured line with close grey shading to model the carved and moulded surfaces. Jan Hendrik Leliman (1828 to 1910), an Amsterdam architect and a founder of the architects' society Architectura et Amicitia, edited the album, gathering in it his own designs and those of fellow Dutch architects. His name and plate number 14 head the sheet, the editorial credit runs lower left and the imprint of the lithographer S. Lankhout of The Hague lower right. As a piece of decorative design, this antique architectural lithograph frames particularly well, and it would suit a collector of Dutch interiors or anyone connected with Amsterdam.
The sheet is in good condition for its age, with light toning, small chips and creasing along the left edge, a few small spots and minor wear to the right edge. Please see the images for further detail.
