Quechua people in costume, an original hand-colored steel engraving of about 1843, from Gabriel Lafond de Lurcy's Voyage autour du Monde et Naufrages célèbres, printed in Paris by Drouart. The plate is lettered "Amérique. Indiens Kuachouas, Costumes", and the lower margin credits "Cattier" for the drawing and "Mandarou" for the engraving.

Three figures stand in conversation on a path in the foreground. One, at the left, wears a straw hat, a short jacket and breeches, and the other two wear broad dark hats and long dresses, one in dark blue and one in a red and yellow striped skirt with a yellow shawl. Behind them, a pasture with large trees stretches back, and low, rounded domed buildings stand among the foliage. The coloring, in blue, red, yellow and green, is applied by hand.

The plate belongs to a French travel compilation of the 1840s that brought together accounts of voyages and shipwrecks, with ethnographic plates of the peoples visited.
