Eleven Native North American men in full dress, a chromolithograph from Albert Racinet's Le Costume Historique, published in Paris by Firmin Didot about 1880. The sheet is lettered "America, Amérique, America" across the top, numbered 103 at the upper right, and credited "Lestel lith." at the lower left.
The men are set in two rows against a plain ground. In the upper row six stand in blankets, patterned shirts and leggings, several with feathered roach headdresses, one with a circular feather bonnet and a painted red face, and beadwork and silver ornaments at the chest. The lower row has five more, in red and green blankets, fringed leggings and beaded moccasins, with necklaces of claws or shell and tomahawks, pipe bags and feathered fans in hand. The costumes are drawn with careful pattern detail and flat bright colors, a mix of woven cloth and hide.
The plate belongs to the volumes on historical costume, where the American sheets are set among the dress of other continents.
