TITLE: French Art Nouveau Fashion Design of Fur Stoles and Scarves, c. 1910

DESCRIPTION:

Original early 20th-century French fashion design depicting an extensive collection of luxurious fur stoles, scarves, collars and decorative accessories.

Presented in an unusual landscape format, the composition contains numerous individual designs demonstrating the remarkable variety of fur accessories available to fashionable women during the Belle Époque. Several of the stoles incorporate complete animal pelts with heads, paws and tails, while others are formed as more structured collars, long scarves and decorative neckpieces.

The artist has carefully rendered the different textures and lengths of fur in a restrained palette of black, grey, cream and subtle brown tones. Small decorative details, including fastenings, ribbons and patterned fabric elements, further illustrate how these accessories were intended to be worn.

The sheet provides a fascinating visual record of French luxury fashion and accessory design in the early 20th century, while its arrangement of individual studies gives it considerable decorative appeal.

Attributed to French artist and illustrator Ferdinand-Léon Ménétrier.

An unusual original fashion study particularly suitable for a collection devoted to historic costume, textile design or French decorative arts, as well as a dressing room, fashion boutique or sophisticated Parisian-inspired interior.
