Title: Charles IX French Court Costume, Royal Couple Lithograph, 1847

Description: A beautifully hand-colored French lithograph potentially depicting King Charles IX of France and Queen Elisabeth of Austria in richly detailed Renaissance court dress, representing the year 1560.

The royal couple is portrayed within an elaborate architectural border adorned with putti, masks, scrolling ornament, fruit garlands, and classical Renaissance decoration. The finely hand-colored costumes showcase the elegance and refinement of the French Valois court, with exceptional attention paid to the sumptuous fabrics, jewelry, embroidery, and royal attire of the period.

This print was published in Paris by Rittner & Goupil as part of the celebrated Costumes du Quadrille Historique, Bals de l'Opéra series. Produced for the fashionable historical costume balls held at the Paris Opéra during the mid-19th century, these lithographs combine historical accuracy with highly decorative presentation and remain among the finest French costume prints of the period.

An elegant decorative print for collectors of French history, Renaissance fashion, royal portraiture, costume design, theatre, and European decorative arts.
